Stress Reduction
– The Creativity Booster: Part 1
Every entrepreneur knows this situation: an urgent task has to be completed but it somehow just won’t work. You have trouble getting started and are mentally blocked.
Why is this the case and what can you do about it?
The reason for this block is often pre-existing stress. When there is a problem completing a task, your stress level rises.
Why does stress prevent you from moving forward?
Under stress, the body goes into fight/flight/freeze mode. These are ingrained patterns that were necessary for survival as we were evolving. They are still present within us today and often show up when we don’t really need them. While in this state certain areas of the brain are blocked and no longer function normally. Creativity is one of these areas. When it is blocked, it causes you to be unable to think or act clearly. It is no longer possible to make a good decision. Unfortunately, this condition is a part of most people’s daily life and therefore no longer even noticeable. Fight/flight/freeze is now perceived as a normal state of being.
To get out of this state and utilize the creative areas of the brain, which are also responsible for decision-making, stress needs to be reduced.
Here’s what you can do:
- Use relaxation techniques such as meditation, progressive muscle relaxation, autogenic training
- A short walk in nature
- EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) – Tapping
Stress levels can vary throughout the day. It therefore makes sense to incorporate these techniques into everyday life to keep stress levels generally low.
It is most effective to use these techniques before an unpleasant or difficult activity. The brain is then “switched off” from the beginning, allowing creativity to flow freely.
